ATHENS, Ga. – The Augusta University women's golf team improved by eight shots in round two of the NCAA Athens Regional and sits in ninth place after two rounds at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
The 18-team field continued play on Tuesday at the NCAA Athens Regional of the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships on the par-72, 6,334-yard course. No. 3 Alabama overtook the lead through 36 holes and leads the event 3-under par. No. 19 Baylor is in second (+2), Michigan State slid to third (+5), No. 39 Clemson is fourth (+10), and No. 11 Northwestern and No. 31 Tennessee are in a tie for fifth (+12).
No. 43 Augusta shot a 294 (+6) in round two, dropping eight shots from its day-one score. Senior Jessica Haigwood fired a 71 (-1) with a pair of birdies on the front and back nine and is tied for 20th (+2) to lead the Jaguars.
Freshmen Charlotte Alran and Linda Lundqvist are next on the leaderboard for Augusta. Alran is 6-over par and in a tie for 39th after shooting a 76 (+4) in round two and Lundqvist is tied for 41st (+7) with a round-two 74 (+2).
Jags senior Eunice Yi shaved six strokes off her score and shot a 73 (+1) on Tuesday to sit tied for 46th (+8) and senior Josefine Nyqvist is tied for 56th (+9) with a 77 (+5) in the second round.
Round three concludes the tournament on Wednesday, May 10. The top six teams and the low three individuals not on those teams advance to the NCAA National Championships.
