KENNESAW, Ga. – The Augusta University women's golf team returned to the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at Pine Tree Country Club and finished fifth out of 14 teams. Augusta senior Jessica Haigwood finished third overall to lead the Jaguars.
Hosted by Kennesaw State, 14 teams played rounds one and two on Monday in a shotgun format on the par-72, 6,032-yard course. Augusta shot 298 (+10) in round one and dropped two shots with a round-two 296 (+8) in day one. The Jags climbed five spots on the leaderboard and finished fifth with a final round 309 (+5).
No. 13 Kent State won the team title (+12), No. 23 Purdue took second (+13), No. 35 Texas Tech third, No. 27 Illinois fourth (+21), and Augusta finished out the top five (+23).
Purdue's August Kim and Kent State's Pimnipa Panthong tied for first overall (-3) to edge out Haigwood (-2) by one shot. Haigwood, fresh off a first-place win at the 3M Augusta Invitational, led the Jags by shooting even par in the first two rounds and posted a two-under 70 on Tuesday.
Senior Josefine Nyqvist finished two over for a tie for eighth – her second best finish on the season. Freshman Charlotte Alran tied for 50th (+13), while freshman Linda Lundqvist and sophomore Cecilia Diez-Moliner shared a tie for 56th (+14).
Maggie Ashmore represented the Jags an individual and placed 50th as well.
The field for the tournament consisted of 14 teams with five of the teams being ranked in the Golfstat Top 45.
