MACON, Ga. – The Augusta University women's golf team played two rounds on Monday to open play at The Brickyard Collegiate and are nine shots off the lead in third place at The Brickyard Golf Club at Riverside.
Hosted by Mercer University in Macon, Ga., the Brickyard Collegiate is a two-day event on the par-72, 6,269-yard course. No. 9 Furman is the highest ranked team out of the 15 competing and leads the event eight shots over par. No. 21 Texas A&M is in second at 11-over par, Augusta is third (+17), Kennesaw State fourth (+21), and ETSU fifth.
Augusta shot 298 (+10) and 295 (+7) in day one led by senior Eunice Yi. Yi is in a tie for ninth to lead the Jags after shooting 75 (+3) and 70 (-1).
Senior Josefine Nyqvist and freshmen Charlotte Alran and Linda Lundqvist were amongst the top-20 throughout the opening 36 holes. Alran shot a 75 (+3) in round one, Nyqvist posted a round-one 73 (+1), and each of them shot 74 (+2) in the second round to sit in a tie for 20th five-over par.
Lundqvist is tied for 25th and senior Jessica Haigwood is tied for 46th. AU's individual, Cecilia Diez-Moliner, earned a tie for 42nd after day one. The Jags totaled nine birdies in round one and nine in the second.
A challenging field descended upon Macon including two teams ranked in the top 25 and six teams ranked in the top 75. No. 9 Furman and No. 21 Texas A&M lead the field along with (national ranking in parenthesis) Augusta (42), Chattanooga (82), East Tennessee State (75), Jacksonville (101), Kennesaw State (86), Maryland (56), Mercer (93), Middle Tennessee (90), North Florida (133), Old Dominion (59), Samford (136), Troy (89) and UNCG (182).
Round three takes place on Tuesday, April 11 with tee times going off holes one and 10.
