PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Augusta University women's golf team began its second tournament of the spring season with 36 holes in the Central District Invitational at St Lucie Trail Golf Club. Augusta is in third place out of 14 teams with one more round to play on Tuesday.
Hosted by Michigan State, the CDI began with two rounds in a shotgun format. No. 7 Furman leads the 14-team field on the par-72, 6,265-yard course. The Lady Paladins sit five-under par. Louisville is in second and leads Augusta by 11 strokes at nine over. The Jaguars shot 297 (+9) and 299 (+11) and are 20 shots over par in third place, UNC is fourth (+23) and Memphis is firth (+24). Third to seventh place is separated by only eight strokes.
Augusta sent seniors Eunice Yi and Jessica Haigwood, sophomore Maggie Ashmore, and freshmen duo Charlotte Alran and Linda Lundqvist.
Haigwood is tied for seventh (+3) out of 75 competitors after she shot 74 (+2) and 72 (+1) to lead the Jaguars. Alran led Augusta in round one with a 73 (+1) and posted a 75 (+3) to earn a tie for 16th (+4). Yi is tied for 22nd (+6). Lundqvist sits 25th (+7) and Ashmore 52nd (+15).
Augusta concludes the tournament on Tuesday with another shotgun format at 8:30 a.m. for the final 18.
The MSU-hosted Central District Invitational began in 2000 and took place each year until 2014. Following a two-year hiatus, the tournament has returned to the Spartans' schedule. From 2000-2013, the Spartans hosted the CDI at the River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Florida. In 2014, the tournament moved to Lakewood Ranch Golf Club in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. The Spartans have captured the CDI title twice (2002, 2008).
