KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – With an eighth-place showing at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Tuesday, the Augusta University women's golf team wrapped up their fall schedule. The Jaguars have finished in the top 10 in all five events so far this season. Augusta shot 898 (+34) in the 20-team field at Turtle Point Golf Club after 54 holes of play.
Hosted by the College of Charleston, the Palmetto Intercollegiate ran from Sunday to Tuesday on the par-72, 5,972-yard course. Mississippi led the tournament after the opening 18 holes, but Campbell made a surge up the leaderboard to win the event by two strokes at 15-over par.
Mississippi's Katy Harris won the individual title four-under par. Campbell won the team title (+15), Coastal Carolina finished second (+17), College of Charleston third (+19), Mississippi fourth (+24), and Kennesaw State rounded out the top five.
Ranked No. 34 in the nation on Golfstat.com, Augusta improved from sixth place in round one to fifth place after two rounds. The team shot 304 (+16) on Tuesday in the final round to slip to eighth place. The Jags finished top five in four of their five events of the fall.
Leading Augusta was senior Josefine Nyqvist who took a tie for 19th (+8). Nyqvist had nine birdies and shot a 73 (+1) in her final outing. Senior Eunice Yi and freshman Linda Lundqvist shared a tie for 31st at 10-over par.
Sophomore Cecilia Diez-Moliner ended tied for 50th and senior Jessica Haigwood took a tie for 55th.
The official spring 2017 season begins for Augusta from Feb. 12-14 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The three day tournament is held at Rio Mar Country Club and hosted by Purdue.
