Augusta Takes Second At Greenville Regional Preview For Lowest Finish This Season

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Augusta University women's golf team completed the Greenville Regional Preview on Tuesday afternoon and improved by seven strokes to take second place at Brook Valley Golf Club. It is the lowest finish for the Jaguars this fall and is the fourth top-five finish for the team on the season.

"I'm very proud of the toughness and perseverance our team showed over the last two days," head coach Caroline Hegg said. "This was a really hard test of golf; the greens were hard and fast and it played pretty long. The Lady Jags focused and worked hard for 54 holes which is all I can ask for as a coach. We're looking forward to wrapping up our fall at Kiawah next week."

Hosted by East Carolina University, the two-day, 54-hole tournament was originally scheduled to be held at Ironwood Golf & Country Club, but Hurricane Matthew forced a change of venue. Teams were scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday, but the second round was cut short due to lack of daylight. Teams finished rounds two and three to wrap up the event on Tuesday.

TCU extended their lead over the 16-team field and won the event by 18 strokes at 31-over par. Augusta sealed second place (+49), Kansas State third (+50), Clemson fourth (+53), and host ECU finished fifth (+55).

Augusta teed off with East Carolina, Illinois, and Oregon in the opening day, The Jaguars shot 22-over (310) in round one and dropped 10 strokes to climb to third place in round two. Two top-five finishes anchored the Jaguars as they shot 303 (+15) in the final round

Seniors Jessica Haigwood and Josefine Nyqvist each posted their best finish of the season with Haigwood taking a tie for fourth and Nyqvist a tie for seventh. Haigwood highlighted her play with a round-two 70 (-2) and Nyqvist a 73 (+1).

Haigwood was named to the All-Tournament team.

Jags senior Eunice Yi ended tied for 17th (+14), sophomore Cecilia Diez-Moliner tied for 47th (+22), and freshman Linda Lundqvist tied for 53rd (+23).

Ranked No. 39 on Golfstat.com entering the tournament, Augusta has finished third, fourth, fourth, and second in their first four events of the fall. It ties the second lowest finish for head coach Caroline Hegg after she placed second and first in her first season in 2015-16.

Augusta wraps up the fall schedule at the Palmetto Intercollegiate Oct. 24-25 at Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
