Women’s Golf Opens Season In Georgia At Louisville Fall Classic

NORCROSS, Ga. – The Augusta University women's golf team starts the 2016-17 season at the Louisville Fall Kickoff on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the at the Berkeley Hills Country Club in Norcross, Ga.

For the third-consecutive year, second straight in the state of Georgia, the Cardinals host the Fall Kickoff. The tourney consists of Louisville, Auburn, Augusta, College of Charleston, Georgia, Georgia State, and Vanderbilt.

Designed by Gary Player and Ron Kirby, the Berkeley Hills Country Club eighteen hole golf course is playable yet challenging, stretching nearly 6,700 yards from the back tees. It is fun for the many single digit golfers in our club to those just learning the game. With 50 years of history, the course features mature, tree-lined fairways and a rolling terrain. It is a "core" golf course, meaning you are not surrounded and playing past a multitude of homes like many modern subdivision courses. Many a major Georgia State Golf Association event has been held here.

The Jaguars enter the year ranked No. 48 on Golfstat.com and No. 49 on Golfweek.com. Last season in 2015-16, Augusta climbed as high as No. 30 in the nation with their sixth trip all-time to the NCAA Regional and it's first under head coach Caroline Hegg.

Hegg begins year two at the helm with a strong trio of returning seniors. Seniors Jessica Haigwood, Josefine Nyqvist, and Eunice Yi have been together since their freshmen year and will commence their fourth and final season in 2016-17.

Junior Lexi Bollant and sophomores Cecilia Moliner and Maggie Ashmore also return along with newly signed freshmen Charlotte Alran and Linda Lundqvist.
