BATON ROUGE, La. – The Augusta Jaguars improved by 10 shots in round two at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional and turned in a 301 (+36) to climb to 12th on Friday afternoon at The University Club.
Hosted by LSU on the par-72, 6,285 yard course, No. 24 South Carolina fired 11-under in round two to overtake the lead in the 18-team field. The Gamecocks lead nine-under par. No. 13 Washington sits second (-1), No. 5 Florida third (+4), No. 4 Duke fourth (+9), and No. 20 Oregon and no. 37 Brigham Young are tied for fifth (+12).
The top six teams advance to the NCAA Championships.
Jags junior Eunice Yi had the low round on the day for the team with a 71 (-1) to hold in a tie for 25th overall at four-over par. Josefine Nyqvist continues to lead Augusta three shots above par in 23rd overall. The junior turned in a two-over 74 in round two and is tied for 23rd, while teammate Jessica Haigwood fired an 85 (+13) and is in 80th.
Junior Teresa Caballer Hernani and freshman Cecilia Diez-Moliner are each tied for 92nd at 21-over par. Augusta combined for 12 birdies on the day to improve by 10 strokes from day one.
From each of these four regionals, the low six teams and the low three individuals not on those teams (for a total of 24 teams and 12 individuals) advance to the national championships, May 20-25, hosted by the University of Oregon at Eugene Country Club, in Eugene, Oregon.
This year's women's championships will be broadcast for the second year by Golf Channel. More than 100 news and tournament hours are planned again for the men's and women's golf championships on Golf Channel.
