Augusta Opens NCAA Baton Rouge Regional In 13th

BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 44 nationally-ranked Augusta Jaguars made their sixth appearance in the NCAA Golf Championships on Thursday at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional and sit in 13th place at 23-over par after round one on Thursday afternoon.

The event is hosted by LSU at The University Club on the par-72, 6,285 yard course and the Jags are 25 shots off the lead in the in 18-team field. No. 13 Washington leads at two-under par, No. 24 South Carolina is second (-2), No. 20 Oregon third (+2), No. 5 Florida is fourth (+6), and No. 33 Houston is fifth (+7) to conclude the top five scoring teams.

Junior Josefine Nyqvist fired one over par with a 73 and had three total birdies to sit in a tie for 15th. Teammate Jessica Haigwood turned in the next best score with a 74 (+2) and is tied for 25th with four birdies.

Augusta junior Eunice Yi fired a five-over 77 and is tied for 50th and Teresa Caballer Hernani and Cecilia Diez-Moliner each turned in 87 (+15) to sit tied for 94th.

Round two begins tomorrow with the second round of 18 holes.

From each of these four regionals, the low six teams and the low three individuals not on those teams (for a total of 24 teams and 12 individuals) advance to the national championships, May 20-25, hosted by the University of Oregon at Eugene Country Club, in Eugene, Oregon.

This year's women's championships will be broadcast for the second year by Golf Channel. More than 100 news and tournament hours are planned again for the men's and women's golf championships on Golf Channel.
