Haigwood Tied For First To Open 3M Augusta Invitational, Jags Tied For Fourth

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Hosting the ninth annual 3M Augusta Invitational, the Augusta Jaguars women's golf team welcomed a 16 team field and sit tied for fourth after round one at Forest Hills Golf Club. The Jaguars shot 298 (+10) as a team and are eight shots behind No. 33 Furman in first place.

Originally scheduled for three days of 18 holes from Friday-Sunday, the event will hold 36 holes in a shotgun format on Saturday, March 12 due to expected inclement weather late in the weekend.

The Jags were made up of juniors Jessica Haigwood, Josefine Nyqvist, Eunice Yi, Teresa Caballer-Hernani, and freshman Cecilia Moliner. Sophomores Sonya Knebel and Lexi Bollant competed as individuals.

Junior Jessica Haigwood is in a tie for first out of 89 athletes with a 69 (-3) in round one. Haigwood began the day with a bogey off No. 1, but fired six birdies to take the individual lead for the Jags.

No. 33 Furman and East Tennessee State are tied for first, No. 35 East Carolina is third, and No. 42 Augusta and Kennesaw State are even in fourth.

Augusta started on hole one with Texas A&M and Furman on the par-72, 6,246-yard course and Haigwood leads the field with Furman's Alice Chen.

Caballer-Hernani is tied for 24th with a 75 (+3), and Yi and Moliner sit 49th with 77's (+5). Nyqvist notched a 78 to round out Augusta's starting crew and is tied for 56th.
