Jaguars return to Forest Hills Golf Club March 11-13
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars women's golf team welcomes 16 teams for the ninth annual 3M Augusta Invitational March 11-13 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
Ranked No. 40 by Golfstat.com, the Jaguars' home event will feature 15 teams for a three-day event with 54 holes of play.
TEAMS: Augusta, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Eastern Michigan, East Tennessee, Florida State, Furman, Georgia Southern, Illinois, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Memphis, Mercer, Texas A&M, Troy, Virginia Tech.
Round one begins on Friday, March 11 with tee times going off one and ten from 9:30 – 11:50 a.m. Round two on Saturday is the same format as the first round and round three on Sunday will be a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
Since its beginning in 2006, the Jaguars' home event has maintained a reputation of drawing nationally prominent teams and players to Augusta for one of Division I golf's top events. The tournament dates were moved from the fall to the spring for the 2009-10 season, where it has remained to this day.
The Jaguars have taken home individual medalist honors twice. Casey Kennedy won the 2011 event while the Jags still competed as Augusta State University and Amanda Smith won in 2006 under ASU. The Jaguars finished runnerup in 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
Last season in 2015, Coastal Carolina won 15-over par (867) for their second win in Augusta in the last six tournaments (2010). Lena Schaeffner of Coastal Carolina won the individual title with a round three 68 (-3) to end the event at four-under par. The Jags finished fourth in 2015 at 26-over par and 11 shots off the lead in their home event.
