Augusta Opens In Ninth To Start Event In Puerto Rico

Jags tee off at Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The Augusta Jaguars opened play at the 2016 Lady Puerto Rico Classic on the Rio Mar Country Club and are in ninth place after the first outing of 18 holes on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start, the 15-team field competed on the par-72, 6,203-yard course at Purdue University's home event. The Jags fired an eight-over 296 as a team in round one and are ninth of 15.

UGA and Texas Tech are tied for first place at five-under par (283) and Arkansas is third, Northwestern and South Carolina State are even in fourth, and Kent State is sixth for the top finishing teams.

Jags juniors Teresa Caballer Hernani and Jessica Haigwood each shot 73's (+1) in round one to lead Augusta in the first 18 holes. Hernani and Haigwood are tied for 20th overall and junior Eunice Yi posted a two-over 74 to sit tied for 31st.

Junior Josefine Nyqvist posted a 76 (+4) with two birdies to sit in 46th and sophomore Sonya Knebel posted an 81 (+9) and is in 77th overall.

Round two begins with another 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on Monday, Feb. 15.
