Augusta Six Strokes Off Lead In A Tie For Third At UCF Challenge

Augusta Jaguars open 2016 season in Orlando, Fla.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Augusta Jaguars are six shots off the lead in a tie for third at the UCF Challenge after shooting a 13-over 301 on Sunday in first round action at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

Hosted by the University of Central Florida, the UCF Challenge features Augusta, Campbell, Daytona State, ECU, Houston, Iowa State, Kentucky, Miami, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Florida, Texas, Tulane, Vanderbilt, and Western Carolina.

The Jaguars sit in a tie for third with No. 15 Iowa State and No. 25 Missouri. No. 42 Houston leads the event seven over through the first 18 holes on the par-72, 6,349-yard course

Junior Josefine Nyqvist's 74 (+2) paced Augusta for the low round on the day, while junior Eunice Yi and sophomore Sonya Knebel turned in three-over 75's. Nyqvist and Yi each carded a pair of birdies and Knebel recorded one in round one.

Junior Jessica Haigwood scored a 77 (+5) and sophomore Lexi Bollant an 83 (+11) for the Jags.

Missouri's Michelle Butler and Tulane's Emily Penttila are tied for first overall sitting one under par and five other athletes knotted at even par.

Augusta continues the UCF Challenge Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 8-9 in Orlando, Fla., for rounds one and two.
