Jaguars begin final tournament of 2015 fall season at Kiawah Island Golf Resort
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Augusta University women's golf team returned to play after a five-week hiatus and the Jaguars sit in 12th place at the 2015 Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on the Turtle Point Golf Course Sunday afternoon.
Augusta, ranked No. 46 according to Golfstat.com, started the three-day event on the par 72, 5,972-yard course with the 20-team field and are 10-over par as a team (298). No. 48 Campbell leads is in first place after round one at one-under par. Kennesaw State is second, No. 40 Furman third, and Illinois and Xavier are tied for fourth.
The Jags were one of four teams in the field ranked in the top 50. Augusta started on the first tee box at 9:15 a.m. and were made up of Eunice Yi, Teresa Caballer Hernani, Jessica Haigwood, Josefine Nyqvist, and Cecilia Diez Molinar. This marks freshman Cecilia Diez Molinar's first collegiate round.
Yi turned in the low round for the Jags with an even-par 72. Yi had two birdies on the scorecard and sits tied for 19th overall. In her debut, Molinar had two birdies on the front nine and eventually carded a 75 (+3) along with teammate Jessica Haigwood.
Molinar and Haigwood are tied for 47th and junior Teresa Caballer Hernani shot one stroke over with a 76 (+4) to tie for 61st. Jags junior Josefine Nyqivst shot a 79 (+7) and is in 76th overall.
Monday's second round will tee off 30 minutes earlier (8:30 a.m. (ET) off the No. 1 and 8:45 a.m. (ET) off the No. 10) than scheduled due to possible inclement weather.
Tournament Field (20): College of Charleston (Host), Augusta University, Boise State, Boston University, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Furman, Illinois, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Louisville, Maryland, South Florida, Stetson, Tulsa, Virginia Tech and Xavier.
