Jags Start Mason Rudolph Championship In Ninth

GRU Augusta begins three-day event in Nashville, Tenn., at Vanderbilt's tourney

FRANKLIN Tenn. – The GRU Augusta women's golf team commenced their first three-day event of the 2015-16 season on Friday at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club and the Jaguars sit in ninth place out of 17 teams at six over par.

The Jags began round one at the Vanderbilt Legends Club with the 17-team field and GRU Augusta is 12 twelve shots off of the field-leading Alabama Crimson Tide at six under.

 

Northwestern is second, Georgia and Virginia are tied for third, Auburn fifth, Louisville and LSU are tied for sixth, UCF eighth, GRU Augusta ninth, Michigan State tenth, Vanderbilt 11th, Middle Tennessee State 12th, Baylor 13th, Tulane 14th, Houston 15th, South Carolina 16th, and Yale 17th.

 

Jags junior Eunice Yi fired a one-under 71, carding a two on the par-three 11th hole. She leads Augusta and is tied overall in 15th. Teammate Josefine Nyqvist shot an even-par 72 and saved three bogeys with a birdie on the front nine and two on the back. Nyqvist is tied for 19th overall and Jessica Haigwood is even with 11 players in a tie for 27th after shooting a 73 (+1).

 

Junior Teresa Caballer Hernani carded a 78 (+6) and is tied for 76th after round one, while sophomore Sonya Knebel shot 79 (+7) and is tied for 80th heading into tomorrow.

 

Teams play the second round of 18 holes tomorrow, Sept. 19 and round three wraps the event on Sunday, Sept. 20.
