AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta women's golf team opened play in their eighth-annual home event at the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate on Friday and are two shots off the lead in second place after round one in the 13-team field at Forest Hills Golf Club.
Kennesaw State leads the event after 18 holes at 12-over par, while the Jags are tied for second with Furman and Coastal Carolina at 14 over.
The three-day tournament on the par-71, 6,085-yard course saw the Jags card three top-20 places after the opening round. Teresa Caballer Hernani is tied for third individually with an even-par 71 – highlighted by three birdies on the card to carry the Jags. Caballer Hernani is one shot off the current individual leader, Nancy Xu from Columbia, who sits one-under par.
Coming in tied for 10th was GRU's Jessica Haigwood with a three-over 74. Teammate Josefine Nyqvist posted a 75 (+4) to sit tied for 13th and Eunice Yi's 78 (+7) finished her tied for 33rd. Maggie Ashmore is currently tied for 47th with her first round 80 (+9).
The Jags had three individuals compete as well and Shannon Pak was the second-best individual after round shooting a 77 (+6) to tie for 25th. Sonya Knebel placed next for the individuals, shooting an eight-over 79, while Lexi Bollant carded an 87 (+16) in the wet round.
Tee times are scheduled off holes one and 10 tomorrow for the second round of 18 - beginning at 9:00 a.m. Live scoring will continue on GolfStat.com
