FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Sophomore Eunice Yi shot a 71 (-1) in the final round and even over 54 holes at the Mason Rudolph Championship to secure the Jaguars a tie for fourth with Auburn, while Vanderbilt took the title at their home tournament in the 15-team field Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legend Club.
Yi started the weekend with a 2-under 70 to pace the Jaguars. Sunday's five birdies on the scorecard helped her card fifth overall with a 216 (E). She began the final round with a birdie on a par-four, but she finished her front nine even after bogeying two, four, and six. Shooting par from eight through 11, Yi birdied No. 12 and 14 to get below par and secure a sixth-place finish.
In round two yesterday, Josefine Nyqvist and Jessica Haigwood's 2-under par 70's drove GRU Augusta into fourth. Nyqvist recorded four birdies, two bogeys, and zero double bogeys in her second round. GRU Augusta also recorded a 2-under par 70 from Jessica Haigwood, a 75 from Yi, a 76 from Teresa Caballer Hernani, and Sonya Knebel shot a 77.
Nyqvist recorded three birdies in her final round, but couldn't overcome four consecutive bogeys on the back nine. She finished tied for 17th at 6-over par after her round-three 77 (+5). Haigwood was plagued by five bogeys on the front nine and picked up two more strokes on the back despite taking a birdie on No. 10. Her 2-under 70 in round two helped her tie for 27th at 8-over par.
Teresa Caballer Hernani shot her second 75 (+3) for the tournament – highlighted by a birdie on the par-three No. 9. She tied for 37th with a 226 (+10). Freshman Sonya Knebel lowered her score in all three rounds – firing a 76 (+4) to tie for 59th at 17-over. Knebel enjoyed consecutive birdies on five and six and another on the par-four No.
