CHARLESTON, S.C. – Augusta University women's basketball assistant coach, Lauren Johnson, has been named the new assistant coach at Charleston Southern University, CSU head coach Fred Applin announced Tuesday afternoon.

"I am thankful for Lauren's contributions to the program over the past two years," Augusta head coach Millette Green said. "We were able to make strides this past season in which we look to build upon this season. I wish her nothing but the best as she creates her own path in the coaching profession."

Johnson joined the Jaguars for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. This past season on the Augusta bench, the Jaguars nearly doubled their win total from the previous season. Prior to her stint at AU, Johnson spent four seasons as an assistant coach for Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C., from 2013-17. She picked up the clipboard at SWU after finishing her playing career with the Warriors following the 2012-13 season.

"We are very excited to add Lauren Johnson to our basketball staff," Applin said. "She will be involved in a lot of the recruiting, academics and on the court with players. Her prior experiences as a player and coach will allow her to contribute to all aspects of our CSU basketball program. Lauren is a former player of the game and who brings great work ethic, organizational skills and people skills to CSU."

For her part, Johnson is excited to join the Bucs' coaching staff as CSU looks to build off a strong season this past year after advancing to the Big South Championships semifinal round in 2018-19.

"I am extremely blessed and excited to be joining the Buccaneer family," Johnson said. "I knew very quickly after I arrived on campus this was a culture and atmosphere I wanted to be a part of. I would like to thank Coach Applin and his staff for the opportunity, as well as their belief in me. I look forward to investing in the lives of our young ladies and continuing to build upon the program's success."

Johnson was named to the SSAC All-Conference team, while also earning All-American and All-Region honors during her playing time at SWU

. Her 510 points during her senior campaign are the highest single season total since the 2003 season. Johnson was also the head junior varsity coach for the Warriors for two seasons during her coaching stint.
