Middleton Cards Fourth Double-Double In 67-59 Loss To Flagler

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team fought the Flagler Saints down to the final seconds, but fell 67-59 in a Peach Belt Conference contest on Wednesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Jags senior Brianna Middleton scored nine in the first half and totaled 17 points for her season high. Middleton added 15 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Augusta freshman Jaelyn Autman and junior Cameryn Wilson each had 11 points, while freshman Asia Harrison scored 10 in the loss.

 

Flagler's Chris Wilson led all players with 30 and 11 rebounds, while Tabitha Odabe gave the Saints 16 points and 12 rebounds.

 

AU shot 54.5 percent from the floor in the first period to lead Flagler 16-14. Flagler shot well to start the second and drained a three pointer to tie the game at 22-all. The Saints stole the second period and outscored Augusta 22-17 for a 36-33 halftime lead. Augusta went 13-for-26 (50 percent) from field-goal territory in the first half.

 

Middleton stayed hot in the second half and kissed in a layup to tie the game at 54-54 with 6:30 left in the contest. Autman answered with a jumper to take one shot lead for AU. With 5:00 left the game was tied at 56-all. Flagler outscored the Jaguars 11-3 down the stretch to survive for the victory.

 

Augusta hosts UNC Pembroke (Jan. 16), North Georgia (Jan. 19), Young Harris (Jan. 21), and USC Aiken (Jan. 30) for Peach Belt Conference games in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
