Jaguars Drop First Conference Road Game At Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team played its first Peach Belt Conference road game of the 2018-19 season on Monday afternoon against Young Harris College and lost 72-59 in the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.

Augusta was led by freshman Kiera Howard who scored a team-high 16 points and added four steals, four rebounds, and a pair of assists. Senior Brianna Middleton carded her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for the Jaguars. Freshman Jaelyn Autman put up eight points and four rebounds and junior Cameryn Wilson six points, five boards, and two steals.

 

The Mountain Lions maintained a strong lead to open the game and went up 11-1 in the first five minutes. AU recovered and the first period ended with each team turning in 20 points. YHC outscored the Jaguars by five in the second period to own a 35-30 halftime advantage.

 

Out of the locker room, Young Harris started strong again and boosted a 16-point lead at 50-34. The Jags were held to 11 points in the third period, while YHC scored 21. Augusta freshman Jaelyn Autman scored the first two buckets of the final period, but the home team proved too much and won 72-59.

 

Young Harris went 20-for-20 from the free-throw line and outrebounded the Jags by 16. Augusta remains in the mountains and heads to Dahlonega, Ga., to take on the University of North Georgia on Wednesday, Dec. 19 for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff.
