Augusta Slips At Home In 73-51 Loss To Clayton State

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team played its first game in 2019 against the Clayton State Lakers on Saturday afternoon and fell 73-51 in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Augusta freshman Asia Harrison scored 11 points with four steals and a pair of assists and rebounds. Jags junior Cameryn Wilson put up nine points with five steals and two rebounds and senior Brianna Middleton scored eight with seven boards.

 

Through the opening five minutes of the game the Lakers led 9-2, as Augusta racked up several fouls and trailed by 27 at one point. Down 41-19 at halftime, the Jaguars got the first bucket of the second half off a jumper from Brianna Middleton to spark a momentum change.

 

AU freshman Asia Harrison found junior Cameryn Wilson for a deep three pointer and AU took a charge in the next possession to get the ball back. Middleton sunk a pair at the charity stripe and Augusta used two fast-break efforts to enjoy a 7-0 run at the first media timeout of the third period.

 

The Jaguars were out rebounded 52-31, but Augusta scored 27 points off turnovers' to CSU's 24 in the loss.

 

The Jaguars host the Flagler Saints for another PBC game on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Augusta University men's and women's basketball teams host six Peach Belt Conference doubleheaders in Christenberry Fieldhouse to kick off the New Year in January 2019. Augusta hosts Clayton State (Jan. 5), Flagler (Jan. 9), UNC Pembroke (Jan. 16), North Georgia (Jan. 19), Young Harris (Jan. 21), and USC Aiken (Jan. 30) for back-to-back league games in the Berry.
