Augusta Blows Out Paine 69-52 For First Win Of Season

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team played against rival Paine College on Saturday night in The HEAL Complex and won a 69-52 non-conference game.

The Jaguar women are now 16-3 against Paine College dating back to the 1999-00 and head coach Millette Green is 2-0 in her two meetings of the rivalry.

 

AU was led by freshman Asia Harrison and senior Moneisha Goldsborough who each had 14 points, while junior Quinlan Hughes carded 10 points. Augusta outrebounded Paine 36-30, outscored them in the paint 18-14, and put up 16 second-chance points.

 

AU went on a 6-0 run to start the game in the first quarter, but Paine powered back and closed the gap down 19-13 heading into the second 10 minutes of action. The Jags owned the first half on top 31-22. In the third period, AU led by 10 or more for the majority of play. Jaelyn Autman buried a three pointer in the corner just before the end of the fourth period to lift the Jags up 53-38 – their largest lead at that point. In the fourth period it was all AU as they cruised to a victory and lead by as much as 23.

 

The Jaguars host the first basketball doubleheader of the season on Wednesday, Nov. 21 vs. Benedict College in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The women's game tips off at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game follows at 7:30 p.m.
