Jags Fall 69-57 To Benedict

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team lost a 69-57 non-conference game to the Benedict Tigers on Wednesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The Jaguars made a layup for the first basket of the game and were tied 15-15 with the Tigers after the first period, but Benedict led 34-24 at halftime. Augusta trailed 50-39 to start the final period. They battled BC in the final 10 minutes and were only outscored by one point in the last period. The early deficit was too much to recover from and the Tigers went on to win 69-57.

 

AU senior Brianna Middleton paced the Jags and had 13 rebounds and 11 points for another double-double on the young season. Freshman Jaelyn Autman carded 16 points and five rebounds for the Jags and senior Mallory Myers and junior Cameryn Wilson each added eight points and three boards.

 

The Jags were outrebounded 50-42 and were outscored in the paint 34-16. AU's bench scored 30 points to BC's 18.

 

Peach Belt Conference play begins for the Jaguars on Saturday, Dec. 1 when the Georgia College Bobcats come to Christenberry for double feature. The women's game tips off at 1:30 p.m. and the men follow at 3:30 p.m.
