Belcher Breaks 1,000 Point In AU’s Final Game Of Season

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team hosted the Lander Bearcats on Saturday afternoon in Christenberry Fieldhouse for 2018 Senior Day and lost a 101-74 game to end the season.

 

The PBC game moved Augusta to 4-22 overall and 2-20 in the league, while Lander, ranked No. 2 in the PBC standings, moved to 22-6 and 17-5 in the Peach Belt.  The Jaguars celebrated AU seniors Ashleigh Outler, Cynara Pitt, Jahmia Bradley, Joshlyn Belcher, and Tanesha Campbell for 2018 Senior Day.

 

Four-year Augusta senior Joshlyn Belcher became the 14th player all-time for the Jaguars to break 1,000 points with a fast-break layup in the second period. She finishes her career with 1,014 points to rank tied for 13th for the Jaguars.

 

AUGUSTA SHOOTING

  • 40.9 field-goal percentage (27-for-66)
  • 39.1 three-point percentage (9-for-23)
  • 91.7 free-throw percentage (11-for-12)

LANDER SHOOTING

  • 60.9 field-goal percentage (39-for-64)
  • 35.3 three-point percentage (6-for-17)
  • 85.0 free-throw percentage (17-for-20)

 

Outler paced Augusta with 26 points, while Belcher and Bradley added 15 each. Lander had three score in double figures, but Augusta outrebounded LU 34-31. The Jags recorded 24 turnovers to LU's 15 and gave up 32 points on those mistakes.

 

AU led first on a couple of three pointers from Bradley and Outler, but Lander took the lead at 5:23 in the first period. It was a battle for the rest of the half, with the teams taking a 40-40 score into halftime.

 

AU went on a small run to start the second half and carried a 50-45 lead with 7:25 left in the third period. Lander stormed ahead to close the third and led 66-61 heading into the final 10 minutes of action. The Bearcats outscored the Jaguars 35-13 in the final period to win 101-74.
