Belcher’s Season High 25 Points Not Enough In 81-74 Loss To GC On Homecoming

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team hosted the Georgia College Bobcats on Saturday afternoon for the 2018 Homecoming game and fell 81-74 in a tight contest down to the final minutes.

 

 

The PBC game moved Augusta to 4-17 overall and 2-15 in the league, while GC is now 15-8 on the season and 12-5 in the PBC.

 

AUGUSTA SHOOTING

  • 41.5 field-goal percentage (27-for-65)
  • 26.3 three-point percentage (5-for-19)
  • 65.2 free-throw percentage (15-for-23)

 

GEORGIA COLLEG SHOOTING

  • 56.6 field-goal percentage (30-for-53)
  • 46.2 three-point percentage (6-for-13)
  • 62.5 free-throw percentage (15-for-24)

 

Jags senior Joshlyn Belcher hit four three pointers and finished with her season-high 25 points. Junior Brianna Middleton carded 22 points and nine rebounds for Augusta, while senior Cynara Pitt put up nine points and four boards.

 

GC outrebounded AU by seven, but Augusta scored 20 points off turnovers and had 14 second-chance points.

 

GS stormed to a 14-4 run in the first five minutes of the game and led 22-10 after the first period. They took the half up 43-26, but Augusta stayed resilient and a three pointer from Belcher with 6:30 on the clock in the third made it 46-36. Another deep shot from Belcher pulled the Jags within seven towards the close of the third quarter.

 

The Jags scored more points in the third period than they did in the entire first half and went into the final period down 57-53. Augusta trailed by eight under minutes on the clock, but the Bobcats never let go of the lead and held off the Jaguars for the win.

 

The Jaguars host Clayton State on Monday, Feb. 12 for a 5:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
