Jaguars Drop Road Game, 84-74, To Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team played at Columbus State University on Saturday afternoon and fell 84-74 in Peach Belt Conference action in the Lumpkin Center.

 

Augusta is now 3-16 and 1-14 in the league, while the Cougars moved to 12-7 and 10-5 in the PBC.

 

AUGUSTA SHOOTING

  • 45.0 field-goal percentage (27-for-60)
  • 36.0 three-point percentage (9-for-25)
  • 73.3 free-throw percentage (11-for-15)

 

COLUMBUS STATE SHOOTING

  • 40.3 field-goal percentage (25-for-62)
  • 30.4 three-point percentage (7-for-23)
  • 84.4 free-throw percentage (27-for-32)

 

Jaguar senior Ashleigh Outler logged 26 points to lead the team in scoring, while junior Moneisha Goldsborough put up 18 points. Senior Cynara Pitt grabbed 10 rebounds and had eight points for Augusta.

 

Augsuta outrebounded the cougars by seven and 13 second-chance points to CSU's 12, but the Jags gave up 25 bench points and committed 21 turnovers to CSU's nine.

 

Teams answered three pointers to open the game and the Jaguars took an 11-7 lead on a Moneisha Goldsborough jumper with 6:19 in the first period. The Cougars took control on their home floor and led 28-17 after the first 10 minutes and took halftime on top 43-29.

 

The Jaguars showed fight in the second half and had themselves in a one-point game at 65-64 with 4:48 to go in the game. CSU outlasted the Jaguars in the final period for a 10-point victory.

 

Augusta hosts the UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, Feb. 7 for a 5:30 p.m. PBC tipoff in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
