Augusta Drops Thriller At Home, Falls 74-61 To Flagler

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team met the Flagler Saints for the second time this season and fell 74-61 in a Peach Belt Conference battle in Christenberry Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.

 

Augusta is now 3-15 and 1-13 in the league, while second-place Flagler moved to 13-5 and 11-3 in the PBC.

Augusta had five players score in double figures. Junior Brianna Middleton recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while seniors Jahmia Bradley and Joshlyn Belcher each had 11 points, and senior Ashleigh Outler and junior Moneisha Goldsborough each had 10.

 

Flagler outrebounded AU 46-31 and shot 22 more free throws than the Jaguars in the game. Augusta won the paint offensively and put up 28 points to FC's 26. The Jags had 10 fast-break pints and the bench outscored the Saints 17-14.

 

AU held a 13-12 lead under five minutes in the first period. The start of the game saw four lead changes and went into the second period tied 17-all. Flagler put up 21 points to Augusta's 14 in the second period and took a 38-31 halftime lead. The first 20 minutes of competition saw eight lead changes and six tied scores.

 

Flagler climbed to a 13-point advantage towards the start of the third period, but Augusta eliminated the lead and trailed 50-46 with 1:20 to go until the final period. Senior Cynara Pitt put AU within three points on a spin-move layup, but the Saints went into the fourth period up 54-49.

 

 

Bradley hit a corner three pointer off an assist from Belcher to tie the contest at 54-54 with 8:28 left in the game. Flagler outscored the Jaguars 20-7 in the final eight minutes and won 74-61.

 

The Jaguars play at Columbus State in Columbus, Ga., on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a 1:30 p.m. PBC matchup.
