Jags Drop Season Opener, 78-69, At Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Millette Green era of Augusta University women's basketball started on Friday night with a non-conference game at Clark Atlanta University in L.S. Epps Gymnasium. The Jaguars dropped the contest 78-69 after being tied heading into the final period.

 

Augusta (1-0) tipped off the 2017-18 season and outscored the CAU Panthers 25-10 in their first 10-minute quarter of the year. The Jags gave up 23 points in the second and scored 12, as the game went to an eventual tie at 57-all heading to the final quarter.

 

CAU (1-1) grabbed a 71-69 lead with 1:26 to go and went on to take it 78-69.

 

First-year Augusta head coach Millette Green had four players turn in double-figure points, with senior Cynara Pitt leading all scorers with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Abrea Harris turned in 14 points, five boards, two assists, and two steals, senior Joshlyn Belcher posted 10 points and three steals, and senior-transfer Jahmia Bradley posted 10 points.

 

The Jags shot 40.3 percent from field-goal range and were a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. CAU carded a 44.4 field-goal percentage and were led by Marissa Mandledove's 17 points.

 

Augusta plays at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C., on Tuesday, Nov. 21 for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference game.
