Augusta Ends Three Game Road Trip With 80-60 Loss At Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Augusta University women's basketball team ended its Peach Belt Conference northern road trip on Monday afternoon with an 80-60 loss to Young Harris College in the YHC Basketball Arena.

 

The Jaguars (3-10, 1-8 PBC) took down YHC (6-11, 3-7 PBC) at home in their first meeting of the season on Dec. 17 for their lone Peach Belt win of the season, but the Mountain Lions avenged the loss with their fourth win at home.

 

YHC shined in the paint and outrebounded Augusta 40-32, while outscoring the Jags 26-10. For the game, Young Harris shot 53.1 percent (26-for-49) from the floor and held Augusta to 30.6 percent (19-for-62) shooting. YHC was also strong from beyond the arc with a 52.4 three-point percentage (11-for-21) and they went 17-for-24 (70.8 percent) at the free-throw line. Augusta shot 31.8 percent (7-for-22) from the three-point line and 68.2 percent (15-for-22) at the free line.

 

Leading the Jags on the season with 14.6 points per game, senior Ashleigh Outler provided a team-best 17 points with a pair of rebounds, steals, and assists. Junior point guard Mallory Myers gave AU 12 points with five assists and a couple of steals and senior Cynara Pitt grabbed eight rebounds with seven points off the bench.

 

YHC took an early lead and outscored the Jags 27-12 in the first 10-minute period. Augusta recovered and scored 18 points second-period points, while holding the Mountain Lions to 17 points in the second period – heading into halftime down 44-30. Young Harris went 8-for-15 from three-point range to help get them to the early advantage.

 

Augusta kept the last three periods close, but the early deficit was too much to recover from as YHC never let go of the lead and won 80-60.

 

Augusta hosts Francis Marion on Wednesday, Jan. 17 in Christenberry Fieldhouse for a 5:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference tipoff.
