Augusta Falls To Top-Ranked Flagler On The Road

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Augusta University women's basketball team played its first game in 2018 on Wednesday night at top-seeded Flagler College and the Jaguars fell 81-58 in the Flagler Gymnasium.

 

Sitting atop the Peach Belt standings, Flagler (7-2, 5-0 PBC) beat Augusta (3-6, 1-4 PBC) to remain perfect in the PBC. After the first two periods were only separated by three points or less, the third 10 minutes of action saw the Saints go on a 24-8 run in route to victory.

 

The Jags were outrebounded 50-25 in the game, but they outscored the Saints 21-7 off of turnovers. AU posted a 37.1 field-goal percentage to Flagler's 54.2 percent, while struggling from the free-throw line as they hit 9-of-16 (56.3). The Jags were 3-of-16 from beyond the arc and FC was 4-for-10 (40 percent).

 

Senior Ashleigh Outler led AU with 16 points, while junior Moneisha Goldsborough added 10 points and six rebounds. Junior point guard Mallory Myers scored eight and had three assists and two steals, while junior Brianna Middleton contributed seven points with four boards.

 

Augusta led by three after three minutes into the first period, but the Saints took over the paint to grab the lead. Flagler outrebounded the Jags 19-11 in the first half, while posting a 57.1 field-goal percentage. The Jaguars trailed by five at the half with a 37-32 score.

 

The Saints sprinted to a 23-point lead towards the beginning of the second half and never looked back to win an 81-58 game and hand Augusta its third straight loss.

 

Augusta looks to bounce back when they host Columbus State on Saturday, Jan. 6 for a 1:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
