Augusta Drops Conference Opener At Georgia College, 73-61

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Peach Belt Conference play began for the Augusta University women's basketball team Saturday afternoon at Georgia College and the Jaguars fell 73-61 in the Centennial Center.

 

Augusta is now 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the Peach Belt, while Georgia College moved to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.

 

Senior Joshlyn Belcher led Augusta with 19 points, Jahmia Bradley scored 18, and Brianna Middleton had 11 points and nine rebounds. AU shot 33.9 percent from field-goal range, 40 percent from three-point territory, and 73.3 percent at the free-throw line.

 

The first half saw two completely different periods. The Bobcats outscored AU 24-8 in the first, before the Jags owned a 22-14 second period score. Augusta went 5-for-8 from beyond the arc with Bradley hitting three treys and Belcher two three pointers.

 

Georgia College took the half 38-30, but the Jags only trailed by one heading into the fourth period. The Bobcats shot 49.1 percent from the floor and held off the Augusta 73-61.

 

Augusta hosts crosstown rival Paine College on Saturday, Dec. 9 in Christenberry Fieldhouse for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
