Lady Jags Roar Past Erskine

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Junior forward Laci Schreiber notched her fourth double-double of the season Saturday afternoon to lead Augusta State to a 72-55 non-conference victory over Erskine in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The victory – the Lady Jags' sixth straight – lifted them to 7-3 on the season, while the Flying Fleet fell to 2-6 overall.

Schreiber scored a career-high 20 points, pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, and handed out four assists. Junior guard Brittany White contributed 17 points, dished out six assists and nabbed six steals. Sophomore guard Becky Newhouse booked 14 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Senior guard Amber Peterson recorded a game-high seven assists.

Senior guard Porsha Morgan paced Erskine with team-high 14 points, while Rosa Powell chipped in 12. Jana Dickson and Elizabeth Tatum each added 10 points and combined for 14 rebounds.

Erskine hit an early 3-pointer but the Lady Jags countered with a 10-0 run that featured four steals by White in five Erskine possessions. ASU built its lead to as many as 12 before heading to the locker room with a 37-29 advantage.

The Flying Fleet pulled within two of ASU at the 15:50 mark of the second half, but a 12-0 run by the Lady Jags -- capped by a Brooke McCants layup at the 9:21 mark – put ASU up by 16. Three minutes later, White drained a 3-pointer and got free for a layup for an 18-point lead, the Lady Jags' largest of the night.

ASU shot 54.1 percent for the game, including 66.7 percent in the second half (16-of-24).

The Lady Jags tip off their Peach Belt Conference home schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 when they host Armstrong Atlantic State at 5:30 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
