Lady Jags Win Fifth Straight

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Augusta State jumped out to a huge first-half lead and cruised to a 92-47 non-conference road win at Converse Monday night in Hannah Gym.

With the victory, the Lady Jaguars registered their fifth straight win and improved to 6-3 on the season. Converse dropped to 1-8 on the year. The winning streak is ASU's longest since the 2007-08 season. The 92 points scored were the most by ASU since a 111-106 loss to Glenville State on Nov. 21, 2009 in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Sophomore guard Jemimah Ashby scored a team-high 14 points and was one of five Lady Jags in double figures. Junior forward Laci Schreiber and sophomore guards Becky Newhouse and Brooke McCants all tallied 12 points each and junior forward Tiffany Jaecks chipped in 10 points. Schreiber snagged 10 rebounds for her third double-double and Amber Peterson handed out six of the team's 29 assists.

ASU, which led 49-14 at the half, shot a season-high 56.2 percent from the field and canned a season-high six 3-pointers. All 14 Lady Jags who dressed played at least seven minutes, while 11 of the 14 scratched the scoring column. ASU benefitted from 44 points in the paint and built its lead to as many as 51 with 2:45 left in the game.

Ashley Long was the only Valkyrie to reach double figures, finishing with 13 points.

The Lady Jags are off for the Christmas break and return to action on New Year's Eve when they host Erskine on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 2:00 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
