Lady Jags Fall In OT, 83-78

ETTRICK, Va. – Elizabeth City State outscored Augusta State 17-12 in overtime Friday to claim an 83-78 non-conference victory in the VSU Chick-Fil-A Classic at Daniel Gym.

After Tiffany Jaecks canned a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left in regulation to give ASU a 66-63 lead. ECSU's Stephanie Harper drilled a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining to force overtime.

ASU sophomore guard Jemimah Ashby racked up a career-high 26 points and seven steals of the bench for the Lady Jags, who dropped to 1-2 on the season. Junior forward Laci Schreiber booked her second double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds and junior guard Brittany White netted 10 points and four steals.

Harper paced ECSU (2-2) with 28 points and nine boards. Shatara Jackson and Jasmin Whitehurst combined for 36 points and 10 steals.

ASU, which shot 50 percent for the game, used a 13-0 run in the final five minutes of the opening half to lead by as many as 15 and enjoy an 11-point advantage at the half (34-23). The Lady Jags went ahead by 13 on a pair of Ashby free throws with 7:49 left in the game, but only scored nine points the rest of the way.

The Lady Jags face tournament host Virginia State Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
