Woods Added To Lady Jags’ Staff

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Augusta State women's basketball program has added Donnie Woods as an assistant coach for the 2011-12 season, head coach Nate Teymer announced Thursday afternoon.

Woods previously worked as a student assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with the Iowa Western Community College women's basketball team the past two seasons.

"We are extremely lucky to have Donnie as a part of our Jaguar basketball family," Teymer said. "He is a tireless worker with an eagerness to teach our student-athletes, and will be a great asset to our program."

While at Iowa Western, Woods helped coach the Reivers to a 50-13 record in two seasons, including their first Region XVI championship and a ranking of #3 in the final 2010-2011 National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll.

Last year, the Reivers ranked first in the nation in free-throw percentage and 13th in team defense. They ran a two-season home win streak to 23 at one point and produced an All-American -- Tyisha Smith -- as well as two first-team, all-region selections in Smith and Marina Fox.

In the 2009-10 season, Iowa Western finished in the top 10 nationally in team field goal percentage (3-pt) and free throw percentage, and were led by the No. 4-ranked player in assists in Amber Peterson.

Woods lettered in basketball and soccer while playing at Nebraska Christian College and Grace University before graduating with a degree in sports management from Bellevue University. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Kinesiology while at ASU.

He has a one-year-old son, Jaxson Xavier Woods.
