Jags Softball Splits Doubleheader With Columbus State

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted the Columbus State Cougars for a Peach Belt Conference series on Friday at Jaguar Field and dropped game one 4-3, before winning the second 10-1 in 5 innings..

 

Augusta is now 9-19 overall and 3-9 in the Peach Belt, while Columbus State is now 18-9 and 5-3 in the league.

 

The Jags travel to Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday before hosting the USC Aiken Pacers on Saturday, April 10th for a 1:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference series at Jaguar Field.

 

GAME 1

The contest was a pitcher's duel, with the teams combining for nine hits. Augusta trailed after Columbus State hit two solo homers in the 4th inning. The Cougars scored another in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to right field.

AU's Lindsey South hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 6th inning, but Columbus State scored on a single in the 7th to survive the Jaguars 4-3.  

Jakayla Sullivan, Summer Frye, and Lindsey South all carded a single hit in the matchup.  

Mary Tillman (4-8) hurled all seven innings for the Jags and struck out ten, while surrendering six hits for four runs.

 

GAME 2

Augusta took a huge, early lead in game 2. Aminah Wood started off the scoring with a 1 RBI single in the 1st inning. Olivia Biles doubled in the 2nd inning to make the score 2-0. Summer Frye hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive Olivia Biles home and Madelyn Libby doubled to push Lindsey South and Aminah Wood over home plate. To close out the 3rd inning, Bella Fernandez reached on a fielding error, allowing Madelyn Libby and Avery Kalbas to score and pushing the margin to 7-0. Columbus State scored a single run in the top of the 4th, but a 3 RBI homer by Lindsey South sealed the 5-inning, 10-1 game for Augusta.

 

Chloe Wilson (5-8) was the starting pitcher for the Jags and pitched all 5 innings, striking out five and allowing 4 hits for 1 run.
