Jags Score Seven In Final At Bat To Split Doubleheader At Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Augusta University softball team met the Lander Bearcats on Saturday afternoon and recovered from a 12-0 loss in game one to win 7-5 in game two. Augusta split the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader in Greenwood, S.C., by scoring seven runs in their final at bat of game two to come back and win.

 

The Jags play at Erskine College on Wednesday, April 17 in Due West, S.C. for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.

 

GAME 1

The Bearcats were too much for the Jaguars in the first game of the day and knocked 15 hits to win 12-0. Augusta totaled three hits and committed two errors in the loss.

 

Augusta seniors Savannah Gabriel and Lydia Hausman each went 1-for-2, while junior Meredith McLendon also added a hit in two trips to the plate.

 

AU junior Morgan Hunter (3-16) got pulled in the first inning after allowing seven runs on six hits and junior Courtney Browne tossed the final 3.2 innings for Augusta.

 

GAME 2

Lander carried a 4-1 lead all the way to the seventh inning, but Augusta came alive and scored seven in their last at bat. The Jaguars loaded the bases and sophomore Megan McCook drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-2. A double from sophomore Regan Norfleet plated Hausman and sophomore Bella Fernandez to tie the game at 4-4.

 

With Norfleet and McCook on base, Gabriel delivered a three-run homer to push Augusta up 7-4. AU reloaded the bases after the long ball and Hausman drew another bases-load walk as the Jags went on to win 8-5.

 

Norfleet went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run for Augusta, Gabriel was 1-for-4 with three RBI and a run, and Prescott and freshman Olivia Biles each added a hit and run.

 

Augusta freshman Katy Caldwell (3-9) tossed a complete game and struck out three, while holding the Bearcats to five runs.
