Jags Drop Two At Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Augusta University softball team played at Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday afternoon and dropped a pair of 9-1 non-conference games at Bears Field.

 

The Jaguars moved to 3-23 and LRU 20-10. AU play back-to-back Peach Belt Conference doubleheaders this weekend with a trip to the mountains. Augusta faces Young Harris College on Saturday, March 30 for a 12:00 p.m. start, before traveling to Dahlonega, Ga., on Sunday, March 31 to take on North Georgia at 12:00 p.m.

 

GAME 1

Augusta freshman Lauren Prescott hit her third home run of the season and went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Prescott's homer came in the sixth inning, after Lenoir-Rhyne took a 7-0 lead. The Jaguars couldn't get another run across and fell 9-1 in six innings.

 

AU junior Morgan Hunter (2-10) started and pitched 2.1 innings, before junior Jada Jackson tossed the final three in relief. Each allowed six hits, while Jackson struck out two and Hunter one.

 

GAME 2

The Bears took game two with again with a 9-1 score. Augusta had four hits to LRU's seven. Sophomore Bella Fernandez led Augusta and went 2-for-2 with a run, while junior Meredith McLendon and sophomore Regan Norfleet each went 1-for-1 for the Jaguars.

 

Freshman Katy Caldwell (1-6) gave Augusta 2.2 innings of action on the mound and struck out two, while surrendering five hits for seven runs (five earned). Junior Courtney Browne pitched the final innings for Augusta.
