Jags Softball Signs Parks & South For 2020

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta University head softball coach Melissa Brocato signed freshman Kelsey Parks and junior-transfer Lindsey South for the 2020 season. The pair signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Jaguars next year.

 

"We are bringing in two very exciting players to our program," Brocato said. "Lindsey has junior-college experience that will make an impact right away and Kelsey brings a winning attitude as a top high school pitcher in Georgia. We are excited for them to be on campus."

Year: Freshman

Position: Pitcher

Height: 5-4

Hometown / Previous School: Snellville, Ga. / Brookwood High School

 

Parks will join the Augusta pitching staff for 2020, after wrapping up a decorated four-year career at Brookwood High School in Snellville, Ga. Parks was named All-Region by the Georgia Dugout Club and second team All-State in 2018, while guiding the Broncos to the 7A Elite Eight quarterfinals.

 

A three-time Georgia Gwinnett Diamond Club All-County selection, Parks won back-to-back region championships in 2017 and 2018 and was awarded the Scholar-Athlete award for three straight seasons. She pitched three no-hitters during her high school tenure, while also competing in travel ball for the EC Bullets. Parks posted a 19-7 record her senior season with 1.70 ERA and 185 strikeouts. At the plate, Parks produced 31 hits, 18 RBI, and hit .316. She plans to pursue a degree in nursing at AU.

Year: Junior

Position: Outfield

Height: 5-6

Hometown / Previous School: Martin, Ga. / Georgia Military College

 

South signed with the Jaguars after playing two seasons at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga. under Coach Ashely Bunn. She helped GMC win a conference championship during her tenure.

 

Born in Athens, Ga., and raised in Martin, Ga., South lettered in softball and track at Franklin County High School in Carnesville, Ga. She was a first team All-Region selection in 2017 and 2016 and picked up second team honors in 2015. South also played club softball for the Georgia Outlaws in Athens, Ga. under coach Jim Fambrough.

 

Also a letterwinner for track and field at FCHS, South earned first team All-State accolades in 2016 and finished eighth overall at the AAA state meet in 2017. She holds the 100-meter hurdles record at FCHS as well. South was on the dean's list at Georgia Military College and plans to study psychology at Augusta University.
