Augusta Softball Sweeps Converse At Jaguar Field

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team swept Converse College in a non-conference doubleheader at Jaguar Field on Sunday afternoon. Augusta (3-11) won 7-2 over Converse (5-19) in game one and 2-0 in the second meeting.

 

Augusta hosts the West Georgia Wolves on Wednesday, March 13 for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Jaguar Field.

 

GAME 1

Converse came across the plate first with two runs in the first inning, but it was all Augusta from there as the Jaguars came back to win 7-2. AU junior Meredith McLendon paced the team with a 2-for-3 performance. She posted two RBI and a run, while senior Kelsea Hunter recorded two RBI on one hit. Augusta outhit the Valkyries 6-3 and had three doubles in the season.

 

After junior Courtney Browne tossed 2.2 innings, freshman Katy Caldwell (1-3) came in and struck out six in 4.1 innings to get her first win on the mound.

 

GAME 2

Augusta freshman Lauren Prescott blasted her first collegiate home run in the first inning of game two. Freshman Olivia Biles scored senior Savannah Gabriel to lift AU up 2-0 in their first at bat.

 

Jags junior Morgan Hunter (2-5) held Converse scoreless on three hits to get the victory. Prescott was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI at the plate for Augusta.
