No. 3 North Georgia Takes Two From Augusta

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team fell 5-0 and 9-1 to the No. 3 nationally-ranked North Georgia Nighthawks on Sunday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference play.

 

GAME 1

The Jaguars (3-27, 0-10 PBC) produced hits on the Nighthawks (32-8, 9-1 PBC), but allowed a run in the first inning and couldn't recover to fall 5-0.

 

Jags junior Meredith McLendon went 1-for-3 and freshman Olivia Biles was 1-for-2 with double and a walk. On the mound, junior Morgan Hunter (2-13) struck out two for Augusta, while allowing nine hits for five runs, but only three were earned. The Nighthawks totaled nine and got 14 strikeouts from their starting pitcher.

 

GAME 2

The Nighthawks plated four runs in the first inning and carried another early lead on to a 9-1 final.

 

Jaguar senior Kelsea Hunter hit a solo homer to left field to put AU on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Biles went 2-for-3 for the Jaguars as well.

 

Augusta freshman Katy Caldwell (1-8) started her third game on the mound and allowed four earned runs, but nine scored after the Jags committed three errors in the field.
