Augusta Softball Plays First Road Games Of 2019 At Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Augusta University softball team clashed with the Coker Cobras in a pair of non-conference contests on Wednesday afternoon and fell 7-5 and 11-2 at Saleeby-Stokes Field.

 

Next up, Augusta plays at Queens in Charlotte, N.C. for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 16 beginning at 12:00 p.m.

 

GAME 1

The Cobras cruised to a 4-0 lead, until the Jaguars scored five runs in the fourth inning – highlighted by a three-run homer from senior Savannah Gabriel. Coker carded three more in the fourth to regain the scoreboard and took a final score of 7-5.

 

AU started junior Morgan Hunter (1-3) on the pitcher's mound and she went 2.2 innings to allow four runs on six hits. Freshman Lindsey Lee made a brief appearance out of the bullpen, before Augusta to went to junior Courtney Browne to close it out. Jags Junior Meredith McLendon, freshmen Lauren Prescott and Olivia Biles, and Gabriel each had a hit for Augusta.

 

GAME 2

The Jaguars attacked first in game two and a double to centerfield from freshman CiCi Castillo scored Prescott and McLendon for a 2-0 lead in the first inning. It was all Coker from there as they won 11-2 in six innings behind nine hits and two home runs. AU's McLendon, Prescott, Castillo, and Biles added another hit.

 

Freshman Katy Caldwell (0-1) made her first collegiate start for the Jaguars and went 4.2 innings to surrender five hits for five runs. Browne and junior Jada Jackson came in late for Augusta to pitch.
