Queens’ Walk-Off Homer Gets Them Past Jags

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Augusta University softball team traveled to Charlotte, N.C. for a non-conference doubleheader against the Queens Royals on Thursday afternoon. The Jaguars dropped an 8-0 game and fell 2-1 in game two on a walk-off home run.

 

The games moved Augusta to 3-15, while Queens went to 10-4 on the season. Augusta plays at Georgia Southwestern on Sunday, March 17 in Americus, Ga., for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.

 

GAME 1

Queens held Augusta to two hits and capitalized on four errors to win 8-0 in six innings. Augusta freshmen Lauren Prescott and Madelyn Libby each had a hit in the loss.

 

AU freshman Katy Caldwell (1-4) pitched 3-1 innings, before Courtney Browne, Jada Jackson, and Alyssa Johnson pitched in relief for the Jags.

 

GAME 2

Each team scored a run in their first at bat of game two and carried a 1-1 score down to the final scheduled at bat. Queens came up big in the bottom of the seventh and hit a home run to steal a 2-1 game.

 

Jags junior Morgan Hunter (2-7) struck out nine in the loss and tossed a complete game to hold the Royals to three hits. Prescott and Libby each produced another hit for AU and sophomore Bella Fernandez chipped in a knock as well.
