Jags Clash Twice With Columbus State

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted the Columbus State Cougars on Sunday afternoon for a Peach Belt Conference series and dropped a close 2-0 first game before falling 10-1 in the second at Jaguar Field

 

The Jags travel to Hickory, N.C., on Thursday, March 28 for a non-conference doubleheader against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. Augusta plays at Young Harris, Ga., on Saturday, March 30 to take on the Young Harris Mountains Lions for a 12:00 p.m. PBC doubleheader

 

GAME 1

The first meeting was a low scoring battle, with Columbus State riding a 2-0 run lead all the way to the end. CSU hit a solo home run in the third inning and followed it with an RBI single later in the inning.

 

Jags junior Morgan Hunter (2-10) pitched another complete game and struck out five, while holding to the Cougars to two runs in one inning. CSU totaled six hits to AU's one.

 

GAME 2

Augusta was down 5-0 heading into their fourth at bat, when sophomore Megan McCook took a bases-loaded walk to score freshman Olivia Biles. CSU carried its lead the rest of the way and won 10-1 in six innings.

 

Augusta freshman Katy Caldwell (1-6) got the loss in 3.1 innings of action. She struck out two and allowed five, while junior Jada Jackson also struck out two and allowed five runs.

 

Junior Meredith McLendon was 1-for-2 and seniors Savannah Gabriel and Lydia Hausman each had a hit as well for the Jags.
