Augusta Gives Up Two To West Georgia

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted the West Georgia Wolves on Wednesday afternoon at Jaguar Field and fell 4-0 and 6-1 in non-conference play.

 

The games moved Augusta to 3-13, while West Georgia went to 16-14 on the season.

 

Augusta plays at Queens in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday, March 14 for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.

 

GAME 1

The Wolves led 2-0 after carding a run in the first and second and added a pair in the sixth inning to win 4-0.

 

UWG produced 10 hits, while Augusta junior Meredith McLendon logged AU's only hit of the game.

 

Augusta junior Courtney Browne started on the mound for Augusta in her seventh appearance and was relieved by freshman Katy Caldwell after giving up two early runs. Caldwell recorded two strikeouts in the game for the Jaguars.

 

GAME 2

Freshman Madelyn Libby put Augusta up first with her second homer of the season in the first inning of the game. The Wolves were quiet until they scored six in the fifth inning and went on to win 6-1.

 

Jags junior Morgan Hunter (2-6) was the game-two starting pitcher and tossed 4.2 innings in her eighth appearance on the mound. Hunter struck out one and allowed eight hits for six runs, before Browne took over.

 

Libby was 2-for-3 for AU and McLendon and freshman Olivia Biles added a hit each.
