AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference released the 2019 PBC Softball Preseason Coaches Poll on Thursday and the Augusta University softball team was ranked ninth out of 13 teams.

North Georgia was the unanimous top pick in the poll, receiving all first-place votes available to them for the maximum 100 points.  Young Harris was second, just one point ahead of Georgia College in third.  Columbus State was fourth with Lander fifth, Flagler sixth and Georgia Southwestern seventh.  Francis Marion, Augusta, UNC Pembroke and USC Aiken rounded out the voting.

Starting her 21st season as the Jaguars' head coach, Melissa Brocato has added seven new players to the team for this season. They include six freshman and a junior transfer.

"I think we will be aggressive and give it all we have on the field," Brocato said. "We always work hard on hitting and will have to continue to do that. We have a large staff of pitchers who will work hard as well."

The Jaguars begin the season with six consecutive home dates. AU plays a doubleheader against Catawba beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, and two more doubleheaders against Anderson (Feb. 9) and Wingate (Feb. 10) both starting at 1:00 p.m.
