Augusta Sweeps UNC Pembroke In Extra Innings

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Augusta University softball team swept the UNC Pembroke Braves on the road Saturday afternoon, winning game one 8-4 and taking game two 9-6 in extra innings.

 

Augusta is now 16-28 overall and 7-9 in the PBC, while UNCP moved to 22-18 and 2-12 in the league.

 

The Jaguars host 2018 Senior Day on Monday, April 16 during the 1:00 p.m. PBC doubleheader against the Flagler Saints at Jaguar Field. The games mark the final regular-season home games for AU this season.

 

GAME 1

The Braves led first, but Augusta senior Carolyn Edwards homered to score two runs in the top of the third. AU never trailed again and won 8-4. Senior Lindsey Stokes was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Sophomore Lydia Hausman had a pair of hits and senior Auburn Balcorta had three RBI on one hit for Augusta in the 8-4 win.

 

Sophomore Morgan Hunter (11-14) pitched 5.2 innings and struck out three while allowing eight hits for four runs, before sophomore Jada Jackson pitched in relief.

 

GAME 2

Balcorta boosted AU on top with a homer in the first inning. The Jags scored two in the opening inning and picked up four in the third. The game was tied at 6-6 in the final inning and went into extra innings. Stokes scored freshman Regan Norfleet with a single up the middle and senior Ashley Boyd hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth as AU took off for a 9-6 victory.

 

Sophomore Courtney Browne, Hunter, and Jackson all pitched for AU in game two. Hunter got her second win of the day in 3.0 innings of work.
