AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted the USC Aiken Pacers for a Peach Belt Conference series on Sunday at Jaguar Field and fell 7-2 in game one, before winning in walk-off fashion. Senior Carolyn Edwards lined a single into left field to score freshman Regan Norfleet and give Augusta a 2-1 victory in game two.
Augusta is now 14-26 overall and 5-9 in the Peach Belt, while the Pacers moved to 11-29, 3-9 PBC.
Augusta heads to West Georgia in Carrolton, Ga. on Tuesday, April 11 for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
GAME 1
The Jaguars trailed first when USCA scored a pair in its first at bat and picked up two more in the third. AU senior Kendyl Conner hit her first home run of the season with a two-run bomb in bottom of the fourth to cut the Pacer lead in half, but USCA answered with its own two-run homer in the fifth inning and went on to win 7-2 off nine hits.
Augusta seniors Auburn Balcorta, Alexis Schlein, Kendyl Conner, and freshman Bella Fernandez each had a hit in the loss. Augusta sophomore Morgan Hunter (9-13) made her 21st start of the season and pitched her 11th complete game. She struck out one and surrendered nine hits for seven runs.
GAME 2
The game was scoreless through three innings until the Pacers scored one in the fourth inning. Augusta freshman Cassie Blizzard hit a single on the right-field line to score pinch-runner Megan McCook and tie the game at 1-1. Edwards came up and delivered with the RBI single.
Second-year Jag Courtney Browne pitched five innings in her 16th start of the season and struck out one, while giving up seven hits for one run. Sophomore Jada Jackson (2-4) entered in the sixth inning and pitched two innings to close out the game for the Jags and get the win.
