Jags Softball Faces Georgia College In Peach Belt Tournament

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team earned the seventh seed to the 2018 Peach Belt Conference Tournament and will face second-seeded Georgia College in the first quarterfinal game at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 4 at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.

 

 

With the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday, the Peach Belt Conference released the bracket for the 2018 softball tournament. The top eight teams in the conference standings advance to the single-elimination tournament, which will be played for the first time on the campus of the University of North Georgia.

 

Augusta (17-33) returns to the PBC Tournament for the first time since 2015 as the No. 7 seed. The Jaguars have come on late, winning five of their first eight conference games in April, including a 2-1 win over Columbus State, to lock down the seed. AU also split with Lander, Flagler, and GSW this season. In the regular-season double feature, Augusta fell to Georgia College twice – dropping the first game 6-0 and a close second game 2-0.

 

Quarterfinal games will be held starting at 11:00 am on Friday. The semifinals and championship game will be held on Saturday. Ranked No. 1 in the nation, North Georgia hosts for the first time, but are the No. 1 seed for the fifth year in a row. They have won the last four PBC tourneys and seek a record-breaking fifth this year. Georgia College swept a pair of games from Columbus State break a tie between the two teams and capture the No. 2 seed. CSU is third, Young Harris fourth, Lander fifth, Flagler, Augusta seventh, and Georgia Southwestern eighth.
