Augusta Splits PBC Series With Columbus State

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University softball team hosted the Columbus State Cougars at Jaguar Field for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. Augusta came from behind in game one with a go-ahead home run to win 2-1, before falling 8-0 in game two.

 

The league game moved Augusta to 8-18 overall and 2-2 in the Peach Belt. Columbus State is now 15-10 and 3-3 in the PBC.

 

AU wraps its homestand on Wednesday, March 21 with a 2:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against Claflin.

 

GAME 1

The Jaguars won their third-straight game with a close victory against CSU. After the Cougars carded a run in the fifth, freshman Bella Fernandez hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to score Ashley Boyd and give the Jaguars a 2-1 swing. Senior Marni Greenstein and sophomore Lydia Hausman each had a hit for Augusta as well.

 

Sophomore Morgan Hunter (5-9) got the win in a complete-game performance with six strikeouts for the Jaguars.

 

GAME 2

CSU came out swinging and run-ruled Augusta 8-0 to split the double feature. AU had two hits to Columbus State's 10.

 

Augusta sophomore Courtney Browne (1-7) got the loss in 1.1 inning pitched, before sophomore Jada Jackson came in to relieve.
